Through generous contributions from various corporations and universities, SAE is proud to award scholarship money to both undergraduate and graduate engineering students. SAE scholarships assist in developing the future engineering workforce by helping students achieve their dreams of becoming an engineer. Funded through the SAE Foundation, these scholarships encourage academic excellence and help students around the world to pursue their passion for engineering.
Detroit Section SAE Technical Scholarship
Application Deadline: December 1 Deadline extended to December 15
Eligible applicant must be a child or grandchild of an SAE Detroit Section member, a U.S. citizen and a high school senior who will enter an engineering or science program at a two- or four-year institution in the fall. GPA, SAT/ACT scores and demonstrated financial need will be taken into account. Two $3,500 renewable scholarship will be awarded. Application.
SAE Engineering Scholarships
Application Deadline: December 1 of senior year Deadline extended to December 15
A number of scholarships are offered to high school seniors who are interested in studying engineering or a related science. These scholarships are made possible by the support of the corporate and academic communities. Applications are accepted from September 1 - December 1 of the student's senior year.
SAE Long Term Member Sponsored Scholarships
Application Deadline: April 1
Through the generosity of SAE long-term members, several $1,000 scholarships are awarded to college juniors who will be entering their senior year between August 1 and February 28. Applicants must be active SAE student members. Self-nominations are accepted, as well as nominations by SAE Faculty Advisors or SAE Section Officers or Community Leaders.
SAE/David Hermance Hybrid Technologies Scholarship
Application Deadline: April 1
One $2,500 non-renewable scholarship will be awarded every year. Eligible applicants must be U.S. citizens enrolled full-time as a sophomore in a U.S. university. Applicants must plan to pursue an engineering career in the field of Advanced Technology Vehicles which include hybrids, fuel cells, alternative fueled vehicles, advanced powertrains, etc. This scholarship is made possible through the generous support of Toyota.
Siegel Service Technology Scholarships
Application Deadline: April 1
Through a generous donation by Arne Siegel, SAE Fellow and Montana Ambassador, six $1,000 scholarships are available for second-year students enrolled at Montana Technical Colleges who are pursuing careers in the mobility community and that demonstrate academic achievement and community spirit.
Yanmar/SAE Scholarship
Application Deadline: April 1
Applicants must be juniors entering their senior year of undergraduate engineering or enrolled in a post graduate engineering or related science program. Applicants must be pursuing a course of study or research related to the conservation of energy in transportation, agriculture and construction, or power generation. This scholarship is made possible through the generous support of Yanmar Diesel America Corporation.
William G. Belfry Memorial / SAE Grant
Application Deadline: April 1
Eligible applicants will be citizens of Canada and will be juniors entering their senior year of full-time undergraduate engineering studies at a Canadian university. Applicants will be judged on academic and leadership achievement, essay content, intent to pursue a career in mobility engineering, and involvement in SAE collegiate chapter activities with a recommendation from the SAE faculty advisor. Two $1,000 grants will be awarded annually, and one will be specific to the University of Toronto. These grants are sponsored by the SAE Foundation Canada and the SAE Central Ontario Section.
Ralph K. Hillquist Honorary SAE Scholarship
Application Deadline: February 1, 2009
A $1,000 nonrenewable scholarship will be awarded every other year at the SAE Noise & Vibration Conference, beginning in 2005. Eligible applicants will be U.S. citizens enrolled full-time as a junior in a U.S. university as of October 1 and pursuing an engineering or automotive-related discipline. A minimum 3.0 GPA with significant academic and leadership achievements is required. This scholarship was established to honor Ralph K. Hillquist, a retiree from General Motors Proving Grounds, and is funded by the SAE Noise & Vibration Conference and related activities.
