University-Sponsored SAE Engineering Scholarships: Bradley University

JOHN DEERE SAE SCHOLARSHIP
UNIVERSITY SAE ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIP

Bradley is a medium sized, independent, comprehensive university located in Peoria, Illinois - a city serving a region of over 250,000. The University occupies a 75 acre campus and its student population of about 5,000 undergraduates and 1,000 graduate students makes it the ideal size for living and learning. The College of Engineering and Technology is approximately 1,000 students: about 800 undergraduates and 200 graduate students. While some engineering colleges focus on a theoretical education, and others focus on the applied, Bradley's College of Engineering and Technology balances both approaches. The college is located in recently remodeled facilities that include state-of-the-art computers and specialized equipment such as laser doppler velocimeters, significant shock and vibration instrumentation, CNC machine tools, rapid prototyping equipment, and a robotics laboratory.

The process of "learning how to learn" is integral to the Bradley University experience. Student interaction with faculty is a critical part of the educational process at Bradley and faculty mentoring of students is one of the key ingredients. In addition to the frequent interactions with faculty members, students also receive a wealth of practical, hands-on experiences through industry-sponsored senior projects, summer internships, the Cooperative Education Program and our established Practicum Program which pays students to solve real industrial problems on site. Working ties to world-class companies such as Caterpillar Inc., Deere & Company and The Boeing Company give students unparalleled opportunities to use specialty equipment and gain "on-the-job" knowledge many engineering students get only after they have graduated and begin engineering work.

The educational process at Bradley helps to develop many future leaders. Bradley's medium size and comprehensive character allow our students to interact closely with those in other disciplines. This exposure broadens their interests as their technical education prepares them for leadership roles. This may be one reason that more than 740 of our engineering graduates have become vice presidents or presidents of companies. Undergraduate majors include: Civil Engineering, Construction, Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering-Computer Option, Engineering Physics, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, and Mechanical Engineering.
