University-Sponsored SAE Engineering Scholarships: Miami University

THE KEN SHINN SAE ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIP
Founded in 1809, Miami University is a state-supported university with a tradition of excellence in undergraduate education. Located in Southwestern Ohio in the college-town of Oxford, Miami is a residential school of approximately 16,000 students.

Miami's Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering Department is one of only a few ABET accredited manufacturing programs in the U.S. The manufacturing program involves designing, analyzing, and applying manufacturing methods to produce quality products. The mechanical program encompasses analysis and design of products and mechanical components of machines and systems. The programs integrate mathematics, computing, basic science, and engineering with a broad liberal education. Many of the engineering students gain practical experience through the co-op and summer internship programs. Approximately 200 students are enrolled in the program. Each year, about 35 students graduate, and they work as engineers in areas such as process design, quality control, product and tool design, production engineering, computer-aided design and manufacturing, and plant facilities engineering.

The Department established the Ken Shinn Scholarship to honor his dedication to student learning, his excellent teaching (over 12 years), his work in the automotive industry (over 40 years at GM) and his association with SAE (a member for over 25 years).
