University-Sponsored SAE Engineering Scholarships: Stony Brook University

SAE ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIP
Stony Brook is one of the four university centers of the State University of New York and offers a full spectrum of undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs through the doctoral degree. Its diverse missions include teaching, research, health care, regional economic and cultural development, and a unique college experience for its students. Located 60 miles east of Manhattan on Long Island's wooded north shore on a 1,100 acre campus, the University at Stony Brook was founded in 1956 and has achieved national stature as one of the nation's outstanding institutions of higher learning. It currently enrolls over 11,000 undergraduates and over 6,000 graduate and professional students. The faculty includes recipients of the Nobel and Pulitzer prizes and MacArthur, Sloan, and Guggenheim fellowships. Membership in scholarly societies include the National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Engineering.

Stony Brook's College of Engineering and Applied Sciences offers fully accredited Bachelor of Engineering degrees in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Engineering Science, as well as Bachelor of Science degrees in Computer Science, Information Systems, Applied Mathematics and Statistics, and Business Management.

Student Eligibility Requirements:

  • High school senior accepted as an incoming freshman at this university.
  • Intend to pursue a degree in engineering in one of the five Bachelor of Engineering degree programs.
  • Citizen of the United States (not permanent resident) at the time of application.
  • Selection will be based on academic achievement and demonstrated motivation for a career as a professional engineer.

Terms of Scholarship:

  • Four $2,000 scholarship will be awarded.
  • Renewable for 3 additional years if criteria are met.
  • This scholarship is not transferable to another university.

Application Deadline: December 15

How to Apply:

  • Download the application and save it to your hard drive as a Word document.
  • Complete the application. All applications must be typed (hand-written applications will be rejected).
  • Email the completed application (in Word or .pdf format) along with any additional documentation required for each scholarship (e.g., SAT/ACT scores, letters of recommendation, etc.) to scholarships@sae.org.
  • Submit copy of your official transcript to:

  • All information must be submitted by December 15.
  • Application for this scholarship does not constitute an application for admission to the university. The student is responsible for applying for admission to this university. If application to this university is not made before January 15, the scholarship application will be disqualified.

Selection and Announcement of Recipient:

  • Recipient(s) will be selected and notified by this university.
  • Results for the recipients of the SAE Scholarships Program will be posted online by the end of July.

Terms for Renewal of Scholarship:

  • May be renewed directly through the university for three additional years if criteria are met.
  • Maintain a minimum 3.0 grade point average.
  • Amount awarded in years 3 and 4 can be $2,500 per year for students active in the Collegiate Chapter of SAE.
