University-Sponsored SAE Engineering Scholarships: University of Buffalo

JAMES & NANCY MCLERNON SAE ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIP
The State University of New York at Buffalo, founded in 1846 as the University of Buffalo, is today the largest single unit and most comprehensive undergraduate and graduate center of the State University, enrolling about 25,000 students (about 18,375 attending full-time). There are 2,000 undergraduate students in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. The School of Engineering and Applied Sciences is located on the North Campus, a 1,200-acre site in Amherst, New York. This campus has modern residence halls that accommodate more than 4,000 students.

The School of Engineering and Applied Sciences offers six undergraduate engineering programs that are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET and lead to a B.S. degree in the following areas: Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. A B.S. degree in Engineering Physics is offered in cooperation with the Department of Physics, and B.S. degrees in Computer and Environmental Engineering are also offered.

Support for the James & Nancy McLernon scholarship comes from an endowment established by Mr. James McLernon, an engineering graduate of the University of Buffalo in 1951.

Student Eligibility Requirements:

  • High school senior accepted as an incoming freshman at this university.
  • Intend to pursue a degree in engineering.
  • Citizen of the United States (not permanent resident) at the time of application.
  • Minimum 1300 SAT or 30 ACT score.
  • Minimum 3.5 grade point average.
  • Selection will also be based on school and civic honors & activities, and employment record.

Terms of Scholarship:

  • Three $1,000 scholarships will be awarded.
  • Renewable for 4 years if criteria are met.
  • This scholarship is not transferable to another university.

Application Deadline: December 15

How to Apply:

  • Download the application and save it to your hard drive as a Word document.
  • Complete the application. All applications must be typed (hand-written applications will be rejected).
  • Email the completed application (in Word or .pdf format) along with any additional documentation required for each scholarship (e.g., SAT/ACT scores, letters of recommendation, etc.) to scholarships@sae.org.
  • Submit copy of your official transcript to:

  • All information must be submitted by December 15.
  • Application for this scholarship does not constitute an application for admission to the university. The student is responsible for applying for admission to this university. If application to this university is not made before January 15, the scholarship application will be disqualified.

Selection and Announcement of Recipient:

  • Recipient(s) will be selected and notified by this university.
  • Results for the recipients of the SAE Scholarships Program will be posted online by the end of July.

Terms for Renewal of Scholarship:

  • May be renewed directly through the university for three additional years if criteria are met.
  • Maintain a record of academic excellence and demonstrates leadership.
