ERAU Soars to the Top at Aero Design East
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) Team #6 achieved top honors in the Regular Class at the 1998 Aero Design® East competition held in Daytona Beach, Florida, USA April 3-5, 1998. ERAU Team #6 finished with 184.2 total points and lifted a payload of 23.19 pounds.
For the Open Class, Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) team #4 and The University of Akron team #9 tied with each accumulating 374 total points. MSOEs total payload was 77 pounds and The University of Akrons total payload was 74 pounds. The Open Class included three teams from ERAU, one team from MSOE, one team from Ryerson Polytechnic, and one team from The University of Akron. Highlights of the Open Class included Quadzilla, a 4-engine biplane, and the XB-98, a flying wing, both entered by teams from ERAU. The XB-98 was unable to finish the competition after it crashed during a test flight on Friday afternoon.
